This is a mid-level position with varied responsibilities, including, but not limited to, the maintenance of the airport Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) at the Denver International Airport.
Compensation:
- Hourly Pay Rate: Up to $29.39 (Dependent on Experience)
- Paid weekly
- City and County of Denver Prevailing Wage Schedule will also apply
- 10% Shift Differential for regularly scheduled hours between 6:00 pm and 6:00 am, when applicable

The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic (MMM) applies advanced mechanical knowledge to perform maintenance and operational tasks on an automated Baggage Handling System (BHS). The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn and work under the direct supervision of a Control Systems Technician (CST), while reporting to a Shift Supervisor to perform the following:
- Performs cleaning of all parts of the system, as well as surrounding areas
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and emergency maintenance within the system based on an established maintenance program
- Inspect all equipment for proper operation and performance including, but not limited to, conveyors, lifts, diverters, and automatic tag readers
- Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and rebuild conveyor components including, but not limited to, motors, gearboxes, bearings, rollers, sheaves, hydraulic systems, conveyor belting, clutch brakes, tools, independent carrier systems, and other complex devices using basic hand tools, power tools, welders, and specialized tools
- Assist the Control Systems Technician (CST) with clearing electrical faults and electrical repairs
- Read and interpret manufacturers’ maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components
- Clear jams and faults in the system, which may require physically moving baggage during failures
- Operate a Central Monitoring Facility/Control Room; these duties will include using multiple computer systems for monitoring the system and running reports, communicating faults in the system using a radio and telephone, and communicating with Airport Personnel, Consultants, Transportation Security Administration, and Airline personnel
- Provide on-site training of Entry Support Mechanics (ESM's)
- Collateral duties as required
- Safety and Compliance Training as Required.
Qualifications:
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Minimum of one (1) year of mechanical work experience
- Capable of working without direct supervision for more than fifty percent (50%) of the time
- Capable of completing a task with minimal supervision (after proper training)
- Fully proficient with, and capable of operating, mechanical hand tools
Physical requirements:
- Able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
- Able to sit, stand, push, pull, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, or crawl on a frequent basis
- Able to frequently lift/move items that may range in weight up to 50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds
- Able to withstand exposure to hot, cold, wet, or other weather-related conditions
This full-time, non-exempt position will be located on-site, at the Denver International Airport. Our team works various schedules as this is a 24 hour/day, 7 day/week operation. The work week will be a schedule of 40 hours, with the shifts scheduled for either Sunday to Wednesday, or Wednesday to Saturday. Each day (except for Wednesday) will be the schedule of either 3:40 am to 4:00 pm or 3:40 pm to 4:00 am, plus a 1-hour lunch break. Wednesday is a 6-hour shift (with staggered schedules to accommodate a 24-hour period), plus a 30-minute lunch break. Shift assignments are determined based on the requirements of the airport and the company, together with a mechanic's strengths, skill set, and experience. Our mechanics/technicians are expected to be flexible with regards to potential changes in shift assignments. All shift assignments will include working on holidays that fall on scheduled workdays.
The successful candidate must be able to pass a drug screening, a drivers' license check and validation, federal fingerprinting, and security threat assessment, as well as airport security badging.
